Bundesliga Football  profiles new Arsenal recruit Thomas Eisfeld, a product of the Borussia Dortmund youth system

Name: Thomas Eisfeld

Age: 19

Position: Attacking Midfielder (Central)

Thomas Eisfeld, top goalscorer of the International Ruhr Cup 2010

The Dortmund youth product transfers from BVB’s u19 to Arsenal for an approximate fee of €600.000. His name would probably have appeared earlier, if he hadn’t ruptured his cruciate ligament in the 2009/2010, which of course is a setback for a player looking to develop. The right footed, central offensive midfielder already left his mark on Germany’s A-Jugend Bundesliga (A-Jugend being the German equivalent to UK under 19′s) where he scored 6 goals in 12 matches so far, with 1 assist to his name. He scored a goal every 174 minutes and managed to improve upon the previous campaign, where his ratio was a goal every 200 minutes (7 goals in 19 matches + 2 assists in 2010/2011).

He was also top goal scorer in the u19 tournament ‘International Ruhr Cup 2011’ (3 goals) scoring twice in the final against Werder Bremen and also won the Ruhr Cup in 2010 where he netted a hat-trick in the Final against AC Milan.

Eisfeld is a common playmaker, with attributes such as pace, vision and a killer through ball. Having been through Dortmund’s youth academy, you can count on his tactical understanding.

His presence will be missed in Dortmund’s u19, as the midfield strategist leaves for Arsenal, because he sees better prospects to make it into the Arsenal first team. We look forward to hearing more of the talented youngster soon.
